Community – Visit 2

We arrive at a school and the kids came to greet us but they seemed very restrained in comparison to the school we had visit the day before hand, we later discovered it was because they are used to having visitors whereas the school we had visited the day before hadn’t had a lot of visitors. So we went into a room much like we had at the other school and sung some songs, introduced ourselves and then went out to play with the children. It took me a while to get into playing with the children but then a bold bright girl came up to me and wanted to be my friend she walked around arm in arm with me and went around to all my team members that had their cameras out wanting to get photos taken of us too and then I sung some song and again the children got So into it. And as I was standing there admiring one of the teachers I had gotten to know I had this sense of I want to be like her, I want to/could be a teacher. Something to pray about...

Later, we went for some visits, and we met a family that broke my heart, there was a grandfather looking after his 3 grandchildren that had been dumped on his door step. They explained the mum just come over with the children one day and dumped them there. And you could tell that these 3 children were traumatized, they felt rejected and abandoned. The 3 of them sat really close to each other and had very expressionless faces. They were covered in dirt and had slightly ripped clothes and their grandfather said all of them hardly spoke. We gave them each a lolly and you saw the oldest, opened the wrapper and passed it to the youngest who looked about 2. And the saddest thing about the situation was that the grandfather had been in an accident 2 years ago and had some injuries including a gash to his leg that seemed to still be oozing and bleeding and fresh and it really broke my heart and I realised we really do take things for granted, that if we are in an accident usually the injury is saw to immediately and has a chance to heal, but here was a guy who had, had an accident 2 years ago and it still hadn’t healed... we take so much for granted.

I also enjoyed getting to know Kennedy and how he became part of Hands and we chatted about favourite movies, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lion King! I love getting to know the people here they are so inspirational and amazing!
