It has been some time
since I blogged but I have been meaning to. Recently I have been reflecting on
the fact that it was this time last year I was preparing to leave for Africa
which is kind of crazy, so much has happened since then. And I’ve also been
reflecting on how my walk with God seems different from when I was in Africa,
which makes sense because even though God is the same wherever we are he uses
the environment and stage of life we are in to allow us to go deeper into who
he is and our relationship with. While I was in Africa, I went through
something or had to deal with something that caused me lots of pain and God was
able to use that as a stepping stone to find him as my rock. And it reminds me
of a talk about faith we had at church the other day and someone mentioned
something that really hit home to me, she said often we think of stepping out
in faith is like walking on a plank of a ship or a bridge because its unknown
and scary; but the truth is it turns out to be stepping out on solid concrete. And
this is how I felt about my time in Africa; it was my step of faith to leave my
family and to travel all the way to Africa to live for half a year it was
unknown but I knew it was where God had called me and at the beginning I was
scared and felt like I was about to step out onto a type rope but once I took
that step I landed on God and I felt
safe and secure. And the pain I experienced while over there made me experience
God as the huge strong foundation of my life and the anchor if I just trust in
him. Because pain has a habit of making us feel like the world is caving in and
the ground we are trying to stand on is crumbling underneath. We can’t take
anything for granted in this life, even family or home the one thing that will
never changes is God and his love for us. What foundation are you standing on?
What kingdom have you invested your heart into?
1 Corinthians 3:10-11
Because if God’s
grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are
building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very
careful. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have –
Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:24
But that does not mean we want to dominate you by telling
you how to put your faith into practice. We want to work together with you so
you will be full of joy, for it is by you own faith that you will stand firm.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying,
our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and
won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs
them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now;
rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now
will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Hebrews 12:28
Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is Unshakable, let us
be thankful and please God by worship him with holy fear and awe.
